This arrangement was made in 1990 for brass players from the Pasadena Pops Orchestra. It begins with chant and answer led by a solo trombone, then continues with a sinuous countermelody wailing mournfully beneath the carol tune. The contemporary harmonization of the third verse affirms a sense of hope. A horn part (substitute for Trombone 1) is provided.
