Ray took his first private trumpet students over 40 years ago, while he was still in high school. Since then, he has taught countless trumpet students of all ages and abilities. Even professional colleagues have sought his assistance; some credit their ongoing careers to this help.
As a new resident of Boise, Idaho, lessons with Ray can be scheduled at his home or at the Dunkley School of Music in Meridian (see dunkleymusic.com). Social distancing is practiced.
Ray’s teachers include Uan Rasey (former first trumpet, MGM Studios), Malcolm McNab (legendary studio recording artist), Edward Tarr (baroque trumpet specialist), Rob Roy McGregor (formerly Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra), Bill Bing, Charley Davis, Roy Poper, and Claude Gordon.
Ray has also given lessons in composition and related subjects, and he is an authority on self-publishing.

Ray has coached many chamber music ensembles, especially chamber brass ensembles. He began coaching at the Humboldt State University Brass Chamber Music Workshop was in 1985.
