Ray is an experienced conductor in the fields of orchestra, chamber opera, musical theater, band, and jazz band, and he has successfully conducted professional, collegiate, community, and youth ensembles. His conducting teachers include Daniel Lewis, Harold Farberman, Gustav Meier, Jorge Mester, Hans Beer, and Thomas Somerville.
He served as Music Director of the Tehachapi Community Orchestra and the Ventura British Brass Band, has conducted the Pasadena Pops Orchestra and the Burbank Symphony, and conducted both the Pomona College Orchestra and Pomona College Band. In his three seasons as Conductor of the Pasadena City College Chamber Opera, he conducted eleven fully staged chamber operas, including four world premieres.
Ray conducts the Pomona College Orchestra.
