Pomona College Brass Extravaganza features severeal of my compositions and arrangements for ten brass, including "Three Renaissance Carols Reborn," "Rejoice," John Stanley's "Trumpet Voluntary," G. Gabrieli's "Canzon Septimi Toni No. 2," and others.

2016 December

Delighted again to conduct Los Angeles' own Horns-A-Plenty Christmas in downtown L.A., including my horn octet settings of The First Noel, The Coventry Carol, and O Come All Ye Faithful


My arrangement of "The Coventry Carol" for soprano and orchestra is performed in La Canada, California. Versions also available for SATB/orchestra and for orchestra alone.


My Christmas cantata, "The Little Child," is performed in Palos Verdes, California with John Rutter's Gloria. Same basic instrumentation, and a great pairing that every choral conductor should try!

Cal State Summer Arts "International Brass Quintet Composition" program features the Principal Brass of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and composition faculty Eric Ewazen, Tony Plog, and Ray Burkhart, including a performance of my "Ricordi d'Italia."


Calico Winds gives two recitals featuring my compositions, including Watercolor Menagerie and Suite Arcata.


Ray coaches again at the Humboldt State University Brass Chamber Music Workshop in Arcata, California


2016 June

2016 International Trumpet Guild conference offers "The Music of Raymond Burkhart," a program of my brass quintet music and my Double Concerto for Flutist, Trumpeter, and Orchestra in a version with piano accompaniment. Featured artists were Malcolm and Stephanie McNab and the United States Navy Academy Brass Quintet.

2016 May

My "Sophie's Waltz" played by the Soka University Concert Band in Aliso Viejo, California, Alfred Lang, conducting.


Ray conducts Pasadena's Crown City Symphony in a program including the premiere of his Elegy for Violin and String Orchestra, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, and Dvorak's Symphony No. 8. Paul Stein of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra soloed.


Premiere Press publishes Ray's Complete Brass Quintets, Vol. I: Compositions. 21 original works. Books for Full Score, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, Horn, Trombone, and Tuba.

Two of my works for trumpet quartet performed in Tromsø, Norway at the Ishavskatedral (Ice Ocean Cathedral) by the University of Tromsø trumpet studio.

My version of The First Noel for eight-part trombone choir performed by nearly 40 trombonists of the Moravian Trombone Choir of Downey, California for their 50th Anniversary concert.

Ray's "Sierra Suite" now in print. Four movements for organ and brass quintet (2 tpts, horn, tbn, bass trombone or tuba). Commissioned in 1991 by Los Angeles' Fine Arts Brass Quintet.


Ray's setting of Giovanni Gabrieli's famoius Canzon Septimi Toni No. 2 also now in print. Brass octet or tentet.

Ray's "Rejoice!" (for 10 or 12 brass, percussion and organ) closes the first half of the Dallas Symphony's "A Big Brassy Christmas" concert.


Ray conducts the world premiere of William Roper's "Fishin' Dem Bones" with the College of the Canyons Symphonic Band. Also premiered, Ray's arrangement of "Silent Night" for solo flute and band and his "Second Suite of Civil War Band Music: Patriotic Selections" (publication forthcoming).

2012 August

The California Philharmonic Brass Quintet gave a recital at the historic Old Mill in San Marino, CA. The program featured several of Ray's works, including Love Letters, Toot, The Y2K Bug Blues, Mishap, and Isle of Colours.

Ray’s original work, Serenity (for solo horn or horn duo), was premiered by Dr. Steven Gross and Julie Callahan Gross on the opening concert of the 5th National Horn Workshop in Kimberley, South Africa.
