This arrangement (2 cornets, 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, and tuba) was made in 1990 for brass players from the Pasadena Pops Orchestra. It begins with chant and answer led by a solo trombone, then continues with a sinuous countermelody wailing mournfully beneath the carol tune. The contemporary harmonization of the third verse affirms a sense of hope. A horn part (substitute for Trombone 1) is provided. There is a quintet version, also (#1081).

Auld Lang Syne Fanfare was commissioned by Kevin Brown, Director of the Pasadena City College Herald Trumpeters, for the 1987 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. A bold and dramatic proclamation of the New year, it has been performed in subsequent Rose Parades and has been heard by millions of people in person and via television. Auld Lang Syne Chorale was commissioned in 1990 by David Washburn for the Disneyland Fanfare Trumpeters. Its jazz harmonies and ballad tempo reflect warmly on the old year. This fanfare was made especially for the Disneyland Fanfare Trumpeters in 1989. It is bimetrical, the melody being in 2/4 time with accompanying flourishes in a 6/8 feel. Georges Bizet used the same 17th century traditional Provençal tune in his incidental music to Daudet's play, L'Arlesienne. There is an extended version for brass quintet (#1085).
